Having not updated this site for rather too long, I’ve realised that it may give the impression that I haven’t done anything since 2012 (or that I’ve gone into retirement)!! Nothing could be further from the truth.
I continue to work regularly as a close up magician, storyteller, quick sketch artist and balloon modeller. I’m available for your private or corporate event anywhere in the UK and always especially pleased to be able to cast a spell on my home ground here in East Anglia.
Please take the time to look at the range of characters and options I can offer. I am confident that one of them will be ideal for your event. I’d love to hear from you.
I had a great time at The Fisher Theatre during half-term week. My magic workshop was full and a I had a good audience for both shows. And – I’ve been asked back! I’ll be doing another workshop followed by a show in the Theatre on Tuesday 14th August. This time the show will be featured in the main house programme (rather than the kids workshop bit at the back of the brochure!) – with (hopefully) a benefit in promotion and an even bigger audience. The Fisher is a delightful venue with a very friendly staff – and it’ll be great to perform publicly in my new home town again. As a wacky incentive – tickets will be just £5 with parents invited for half price as long as they are in the care of a child!! The new Fisher Theatre programme will be published shortly.
I’ll be teaching magic workshops and performing magic shows for children at The Fisher Theatre, Bungay over the coming half-term week – 13th to 18th February.
- Wednesday 15th morning 10.00am – 12.00 noon, “Magic You Can Make and Do” – for anyone who’d like to fool friends or family with a little easy to do, yet baffling magic
- Wednesday 15th afternoon 1.00pm – 3.00pm – Malcolm’s Magical Mayhem Show” – one and a half hours of amusement and amazement with an interval
- Saturday 18h morning at 10.30am – “Magic & Storytelling Show” for 3-5 year olds.
Pre-booking is strongly advised. Tickets for all the events are available from The Fisher Theatre Box Office (01986) 897130
On Wednesday, I was booked to provide walkabout magic and a show during the Bungay Christmas lights switch on event. The switch was operated by local actress Matilda Ziegler who plays the part of Pearl (together with her sister Ruby they run the dressmaker’s shop) in the TV series “Larkrise to Candleford”. Matilda was also in Eastenders in the late 1980s and appeared as Mr Bean’s girlfriend in the TV series “Mr Bean”. A choir sang carols and there was a children’s band playing Christmas music. The town’s shops mostly stayed open and there was mulled wine, hot pork rolls and a very generous prize draw for £500 worth of vouchers to be spent in the town.
I spent my time doing magic and balloons at The Buttercross (in the town centre) and The Fisher Theatre and finished with an outdoor show in front of the post office.
Bungay looks charming with the Christmas lights on (a feat accomplished by a small army of men up ladders with walkie-talkies all waiting for the signal!). Although I missed the actual switch on (I was getting my show set up), I understand that it was all rather lovely. Bungay still retains a good deal of its medieval character – the bypass has to be thanked for that – and the Chamber of Trade works hard to keep the town flourishing.
The Annual Bungay Christmas Street Market is on Sunday 4th December.
I had a really nice piece in The Lowestoft Journal a few days ago – based on my appearance at a charity concert in Oulton Broad for “Sound East” – the Lowestoft & District Talking Newspaper for the Visually Impaired.
The story revealed that, despite performing magic professionally for over 25 years, I had never done a public performance in the place where I was born and brought up! It also featured the family connections that made the performance a bit special.
I am beginning to get a little attention for my work as an entertainer in our new home county. With the cost of travel these days, that’s no bad thing!
Following a recent Halloween storytelling gig for Clinton Cards in York, I’ve just received this lovely feedback from the store manager via my agent – “He was fantastic I think he was a real wizard he was marvelous with the children and the parents shopped around and spent their lovely money in store so I’m very happy with that.”
It’s always nice to get feedback! If you know anyone that needs a “real” wizard – please get in touch.
Well – here I am in lovely East Anglia! Much of it is changed from when I was brought up here many years ago. But – I’ve plenty of magic to share and I’m raring to go! If you would like to inject a bit of light-hearted mystery into your event – whether for adults, children or for promotional purposes, I know I’ve got something to offer.
